This year, as I turned 25, I made the decision to hand in my notice and commit to becoming a professional artist. From March the 23rd I will have no stable income as I swap the 9-5 for painting 24/7.
My aim is to be able to make a living out of painting. How I achieve this isn't definite but my current plan is to promote my work on as many platforms as possible and hope that people like what I do. And buy it.
At the moment I am just over a month away from my final day at my current job so I am in the process of getting all my ducks in a row before I leave. Hence I'm starting to write this blog now.
This blog is as much a part of the plan as it is a record of the journey that I can one day look back on, either as a successful artist or as an unsuccessful artist looking to find out why it didn't happen.
At this point I'm not familiar with blogs or blogging; the most self promotion I have done so far is have social media accounts, none of which are particularly successful. Unlike Insta, I want this blog to be somewhere where I can document the full process of painting from the bad painting days to the works in progress all the way to the framing and delivery.
I hope that what I get up to over the coming months will prove of interest to people, particularly anyone who might be thinking about or is doing the same thing. Any hints and tips from anyone further along their journey are most welcome as I have a long way to go and a lot to learn.
Thank you for reading and so it begins...
